Let’s Start Something!
I’ve been thinking about writing for some time. I started a book but haven’t worked on it in over a year. So, let’s see if I can get this blog thing going. What is it going to be about? Family? BBQ? Business? Fuck ups? I think it will be about everything in this Barbecue Journey! Life has been crazy since 2016 when we opened Zavala’s Barbecue. So, how did we get to 2016, and how did we get from 2016 to now?
The Very Beginning
Growing up my dad cooked every weekend and our house was packed. I had the best time playing with my cousins and friends! We played all day because my dad was smoking and drinking cold beers with his friends and brothers. The music was playing out of the truck with the windows down. Every 30 mins they would turn the truck on so the battery wouldn’t die, haha. I can’t tell you how many times the trucks wouldn’t start at the end of the night! Barbecue has created so many memories growing up, and I love the memories I’m still creating with my friends and family every day. I have met so many amazing individuals since 2016 and have developed some great friendships – It’s amazing to hear friend’s stories on why they do what they do. My goal is to share what I’ve learned, my friends' stories, and all kinds of random thoughts along the way – let’s see how it goes!
